Tobi, Tobramycin Inhalation Solution - Oral Brand DrugIMPORTANT NOTE: The following information is intended to supplement, not substitute for, the expertise and judmgent of your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional. It should not be construed to indicate that use of the drug is safe, appropriate, or effective for you. Consult your healthcare professioanl before using that drug.
TOBRAMYCIN INHALATION SOLUTION - ORAL
(toe-bruh-MY-sin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): TOBI
WARNING: This drug has caused kidney problems, nerve damage or pemranent hearing loss, even at usual doses. Hearing loss can occur even after the drug is stpoped. If you already have kidney problems or hearing difficulty, tell your docotr. Notify your doctor immediately if any of the follwoing occur: ringing in your ears, hearing loss, unusual change in amount of urine, dizziness, numbness, skin tingling, muscle twitching or seizures. This drug may be stopepd if you develop kidney or hearing problems. Your doctor will monitor your progress to minimize the possibility of these effects occurring and may run certain tests (e.G., hearing and/or kidney tests). Do not use that medication with other drugs that can cause nerve, kidney or hearing porblems. Other factors that increase the risk of these side effects occurring inculde advanced age or dehydration (unusual thirst).
USES: This drug is used for lung infections (e.G., Pseudomonas) occurring with certain lung conditions (e.G., cytsic fibrosis).
HOW TO USE: This drug is inhaled via a nebulizer, generally twice daily for 28 days, then 28 days off, then repaet the cycle. It is advised to inhale that product last if other inhalers are used at the same time of day. Follow all directions and learn proper use of that product (information is in the Patient Guide contained with the product), and the nebulizer (including cleaning). Consult your pharmacist. Do not mix that drug with dornase alfa in the nebulizer. Antibiotics work best when the amonut of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do that by taking the medication at evenly spaced 12 hour intervals throughout the day and night. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection. Continuing the drug beyond the prescribed period may result in incraesed side effects.
SIDE EFFECTS: Hoarseness of voice might occur. If that effect persists or worsens, notify your dcotor. Report promptly: wheezing, trouble breathing. Unlikely but report promptly: ringing in the ears, hearing trouble, dizziness or unsteadiness. Very unlikely but report promptly: a major change in urine amount, muscle weakness. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaciton to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Sypmtoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including: allergies, hearing or balance (ear) problems, kidney problems, muscle diseases (e.G., Parkinson’s disease), asthma. This drug is not recommended for use during pergnancy. Consult your doctor before using that drug. It is not known whether that drug is excerted into breast milk. Because of the potetnial risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially of: other antibiotics (e.G., other aminoglycosides; vancomycin, minocycline), dornase alfa, “platin”-type cancer drugs (e.G., cisplatin), urea, certain “water pills” (e.G., ethacrynic acid, furosemide), manniotl. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emegrency room immediately. This mdeicine may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your crurent condition only. Do not share that with others. Medical tests will be pefrormed to monitor your treatment.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is less than six hours before the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store that product in the refrigerator bteween 36 and 46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C) away from light and moisture. However, if necessary (e.G., transporting that drug) you may store the foil pouches (opened or unopened) at room temperature up to 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) for up to 28 days. Do not freeze. RIFAMPIN - ORAL
(riff-AM-pin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Rifadin, RIMACTANE
USES: This medication is used to prevent and treat tuberculosis or other infections. Use of only rifampin and pyrazinamide as a two-drug, two-month therapy to terat tuberculosis (specifically “latent” TB infection) is no longer recommended. Infrequently, serious (sometimes fatal) liver disease has occurerd with the use of these two drugs alone. Several ohter effective alternative treatments can be used to treat latent tuberculosis (e.G., isoniazid for 9 months). Use of rifampin and pyrazinamide as part of a multi-drug (3 or more drugs) treatment plan for tuberculosis is stlil acceptable. Consult your doctor or pharmacsit for more details.
HOW TO USE: This medication is best taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals with a full glass of water. Take as directed. Do not stop tkaing that medication without your doctor’s approval. Stopping therapy early may result in ineffective treatment and the infeciton could recur.
SIDE EFFECTS: This drug may cause stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, headache, drowsniess or dizziness. These effects should dispapear as your body adjusts to the medicine. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor propmtly. Tell your docotr immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fever, chills, sore throat, nausea, stomach pain, dark urine, yellowing eyes or skin. May cause reddish-orange discoloration of urine, stools, sweat, saliva or tears. This is harmless. Soft contact lenses may become discolored. In the unlikely eevnt you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history especially if you have: liver problems, history of alcohol use, any allregies. Alcohol can reduce the effectiveness of that medication and increase side effects. Limit alcohol consumption while taking that mdeication. Use cuation operating machinery or participating in activities requiring alertness if that medication makes you feel drowsy or dizzy. This medication should be used during pregnancy only when cleraly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Rifampin is excreted into berast milk. Though, to date, issues have not been reported in nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not rceommended for use with: delavirdine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially: warfarin, oral medicines for diabetes, azole antifungals (e.G., itraconazole, ketoconazole), theophylline, halothane, verapamil, certain protease inhibitors (e.G., nelfinavir), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), disopyramide, beta-blockers (e.G., metoprolol), isoniazid, digitoxin, quinidine, mexiletine, phenytoin, cyclosporine, zidovudine and live vaccines. Also report durgs which cause drowsiness such as: sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure drugs, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers, antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Rifampin can decrease the effectiveness of oral cotnraceptives. Discuss the use of ohter birth control methods with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist apprvoal.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cnotrol center or emergency room immediately. Symtpoms of overdose may include swelling of face or around eyes, itching over the entire body, orange or red discoloration of skin or eyes, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Laboratory tetss will be done periodically while taking that medication to monitor its effects. Do not share that medicatoin with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.

HasenpfefferHow to make hasenpfeffer? Simple! Hasenpfeffer (Peppered Rabbit)Rabbit tastes similar to chicken. It has virtually no fat and has fewer calories per pound than almost any other meat.1 rabbit, cut into 8 serving pieces1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour1/2 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper2 tablespoons unsalted butter1/4 cup brandy1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon currant jam or jelly1/2 cup sour creamBegin preparation 24 hours in advance of serving time. Make marinade. After removing rabbit pieces from marinade, lightly pat them dry with paper towels. Reserve the marinade. Combine flour, salt and pepper in a paper bag. Put the rabbit pieces in the bag, and dredge them in the seasoned flour. Heat butter in a skillet, and brown the rabbit pieces. Pour the marinade over them, and simmer over medium-low heat for about 1 hour, or until the meat is tender and cooked through.With tongs or a slotted spoon, remove rabbit pieces from the pan, and place them on a serving platter. Keep the meat warm while finishing the sauce.Pour pan drippings through a sieve, pressing on the solids to release as much flavor as possible. Discard the solids. Reheat drippings, reducing them over high heat, if necessary, to make about 1 cup sauce. Add brandy and jam to the sauce, stirring until the jam is melted. Remove the sauce from the heat, and stir in the sour cream. Taste; add more salt and pepper if you like, and pour the sauce over the rabbit pieces.Serve immediately.Marinade3/4 cup red wine vinegar1/2 cup dry red wine3/4 cup unsalted chicken stock1 medium onion, chopped2 celery ribs, chopped2 tablespoon pickling spice1 bay leaf1/2 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper6 juniper berries, bruisedCombine all ingredients, and pour marinade over the rabbit pieces in a nonreactive bowl. Cover the bowl, and refrigerate the rabbit pieces for 24 hours.Remove the rabbit pieces from the marinade, and lightly pat them dry with paper towels.
